A Companion To The
Gateway To Understanding...
Learning the subject of electricity and
electronics through the study of this workbook is tremendously more beneficial than simply purchasing and reading
the book on your own. The workbook provides many advantages including:
a)A step by step approach
presenting a series of lessons, which are bite-sized pieces of information taken from the
book.
b) The lessons act like a
trail or a “road to knowledge” with a definite beginning and a finite end. This prevents possible
frustration of the reader from aimlessly reading the book or getting overwhelmed by the enormity of the
subject.
c) Solutions to many of the
end of chapter quizzes provide an excellent check-out to the reader’s comprehension of the
material.
d) A streamlined approach to
learning electricity/electronics, which takes irrelevant materials off the direct path of achieving the
final goal of total comprehension.
e) Author's numerous
comments, exercises and summary adds clarity and understanding and brings simplification to a very
complicated subject.
f) You also get a Certificate upon course completion.
"Education in the science of physics,
engineering, electronics and others consists of guiding the reader along a gradient of known
data, with the highest attention to the basic concepts that form the foundation of any of these
desired fields of study.
"The basic concepts presented in this book
are far more fundamental than the mother sciences of engineering (i.e., physics and
mathematics) and cover the essential truth about our physical universe in which we live. These
basic truths convey a much deeper understanding about the nature of the physical universe than
has ever been discussed in any electronic or for that matter any scientific
textbook."

About the Author
Matthew M. Radmanesh received his MSEE and Ph.D. degrees from the
University of Michigan, Ann
Arbor, in Microwave Electronics and Electro-Optics in 1980 and 1984,
respectively.
He has worked in academia for Kettering University
and in industry for Hughes Aircraft Co., Maury Microwave Corp. and Boeing
Aircraft Co. He is currently a faculty member in the electrical and computer engineering
department at California State University, Northridge,
CA.
Dr. Radmanesh is a senior member of IEEE, Eta Kappa Nu Honor
society and a past president (three years) of the SFV chapter of the IEEE Microwave Theory and
Technique (MTT) society. His many years of experience in both microwave industry and academia
have led to over 40 technical papers in national and international journals and several design
handbooks in microwave engineering and solid state devices.
He received the distinguished lecturer award in the 1994 IEEE
international Microwave Symposium and was awarded twice by IEEE LA council for his contributions
to the MTT society (1994, 1995). He also received two awards for commitment and dedication to
education, from IEEE in 2002 and 2003.
Dr. Radmanesh authored a popular book entitled “The Gateway to Understanding: Electrons to Waves and Beyond,”
accompanied by a comprehensive workbook, both published by AuthorHouse in 2005 as well as
another book entitled "Radio Frequency and Microwave
Electronics Illustrated" published by Prentice Hall in 2001. He holds two patents for his
pioneering work and novel designs of two millimeter-wave noise sources. His hobbies include
chess, philosophy, soccer and tennis.
Dr. Radmanesh intends to bring about a higher level of
understanding in the scientific community and/or the society at large, about the basic
principles of life and livingness of which the knowledge about sciences and engineering is but a
subset.
"While studying sciences and
engineering at the university, the author always looked for simplicity, a higher level of truth,
and a deeper level of understanding in all of the rigorous mathematics and many of the physical
laws that were presented. Upon further investigation, the underlying principles, which form the
backbone of all extant physical sciences, have finally emerged and are presented as the
"'undamentals of physical sciences'.
"In general, we can
see that workable knowledge is like a pyramid, where from a handful of common denominators
efficiently expressed by a series of basic postulates, axioms and natural laws, which form
the foundation of a science, an almost innumerable number of devices, circuits, and systems
can be thought up and developed."

"The emphasis has been shifted from rigorous and sophisticated mathematical solutions of complex
equations and instead has been aptly placed on conceptual understanding and electronic waves by
using simple explanations, while emphasizing the basics all the way.
"The emphasis is on fundamentals and for this reason all new technical terms must be thoroughly
defined and understood as they are introduced. This is a novel approach and is based upon the
results obtained in recent investigations and research in the field of education, which has shown
that the lack of (or the slightest uncertainty on) the definition of terms will pose as formidable
obstacles in the reader''s mind in achieving full comprehension of the material.
"A series of uncomprehended or misunderstood technical terms will block one''s road to total
comprehension and mastery of the subject. This undesirable condition will eventually lead to a
dislike and total abandonment of the subject.
"Therefore, the road before one is at once a clear-cut path to knowledge by understanding that
one needs to grasp the terms fully before one grasps the concept, and all of these should occur
long before one achieves mastery of any desired subject. "
